Buyer - Plumbing Materials

Our Mechanical & Electrical client are looking for an experienced Buyer to join their busy Bristol branch.


With over £15m of work secured for the next year, they have a fantastic pipeline of projects that has continued throughout the pandemic.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in buying & purchasing and ideally be CIPS qualified or working towards the CIPS qualificaiton, who will have experience working in a merchant trade environment with M & E, plumbing, renewable, gas and boiler products.

You will be required to prepare accurate quantities and material schedules, competitively source and co-ordinate the supply of plant and materials required for various sites for their projects.


You will be managing pricing and trading agreements and quotations, ensuring the team deliver on time, meeting and tight deadlines throughout.  You will need to be able to forecast costs and estimates on a monthly basis along with regular cost reviews with the Operations Director will be essential in this role to work effectively.


The ideal candidate will need to be a strong communicator with a great work ethic and have the ability to adapt your communication skills to get the best out of your team whilst putting the companies best interests first.  You will need to show a willingness to procure materials, goods and services to programme and to the commercial advantage of the company.


Ideally you will have previous experience of working in the plumbing merchant industry and would be extremely advantageous if you have a trade counter or estimating background.

Strong negotiation skills and good relationships with suppliers are necessary and a high level of computer literacy including advanced knowledge of Microsoft excel such as pivot tables etc


Your day to day tasks will involve: – Managing people and achieving objectives, supporting the site teams by ensuring materials are provided to the specification and projects.  You will produce purchase orders via the company system to ensure materials are correct and deliveries are on site in time frames required and you will monitor and maintaining both site and internal store stock levels, liaising with contract managers and the Operations Director for upcoming works to ensure correct materials are available and producing material forecasts with relevant inputs from key personal.


In return our client is offering a salary between £30-£40k (DOE) + excellent company benefits.
